Richard Beecham - Selector
Richard
read English at Jesus College, Oxford and gained a Masters
in Theatre at RADA/King’s College, London. In 1997 he was
awarded a Regional Theatre Young Director Scheme bursary to
train at the Bolton Octagon and completed his training in
1999 at the National Theatre Studio. He has directed at
theatres throughout the country including: The School
For Scandal, The Miser, The
Invention Of Love and Side by Side by Sondheim
(Salisbury Playhouse); The Two Gentlemen
of Verona, Private Lives,
Charley’s Aunt, Black Comedy and
The Real Inspector Hound (Northcott Theatre,
Exeter); A Taste of Honey, Neville’s
Island, How The Other Half Loves
(Watford Palace Theatre); Entertaining Mr Sloane
(Best Production nomination MEN Awards) and the World
Premiere of Early One Morning by Les Smith
(Bolton Octagon); Romeo and Juliet (Creation
Theatre/Oxford Stage Company); The Bench
(Battersea Arts Centre); the world premieres of Just
Before The War by Julia Pascal (Young Vic Studio),
Eulogy For A Hard Man by Steve Chambers (Live
Theatre, Newcastle) and The History of Miss Fortune
by Rowan Joffe (C-Theatre, Edinburgh Fringe); The
Widowing of Mrs Holroyd, The Children’s Hour,
Present Laughter and The Exception and The
Rule (ArtsEd. London); Our Town and
Widows (Oxford School of Drama). Richard was
Artistic Director of Caird Company’s 5 Corners
season of new British plays at the Jerwood Space and was
Associate Director on the Young Vic’s touring production of
Hobson’s Choice and the Tricycle Theatre’s
production of Crossing Jerusalem. He has
worked as an Assistant Director at the RSC and at theatres
throughout the country. |
